As the weather cools off and the days get shorter, I think we can all agree that we have come a long way in 2024. For many of us, we have volunteered, we have donated, we have disbursed grants, we have sponsored events, we have executed developmental projects, we have made calls, attended meetings, raised money, and more; all in a bid to improve our communities. We have done well, and we should be proud of our stewardship.
For these reasons, let us embrace the upcoming season of Thanksgiving; and know that it is only with an attitude of grace and appreciation that we will continue to make progress.
I believe in the power of the individual to make change. In western Kansas, men, women, boys, and girls are doing just that – taking specific steps to make our communities a better place. We see this everywhere. I saw it in the City of Russell when I attended their Rotary meeting full of optimistic changemakers. I saw it again in Phillipsburg when that town hosted development professionals from across western Kansas. I saw it in Bird City where regional tourism leaders gathered to discuss our shared efforts. I saw it in the faces of the Saline County leaders as they enhanced their partnership with Nex-Tech toward digital equity. I saw it in Barton County where an entrepreneur is determined to continue the legacy of his late mom, late brother, and infirm dad by growing a successful agri-business. I’m so proud of Matt, and many like him.
When it comes to making grassroots change, I believe that technology is one of the best routes to take. As you will read below, Nex-Tech is making development possible with technology. Nex-Tech is supporting libraries with new technology; we are innovating to better serve the evolving needs of communities; we are hooking up communities to high-speed broadband; we are sustaining support for our youth and the next generation; we are supporting childcare institutions to make sure that parents can contribute to the local economy; we are supporting statewide efforts to bridge the digital divide; and we are collaborating with national groups to improve our shared communities.
